Useful Programs

 

The primary purpose of DMX is to see things that do not easily fit onto a single monitor. Here are some programs that can make good use of DMX. You may need a windows manager running if you would like to easily resize the windows.

Note: DMX is not recommended for running OpenGL applications; for better performance, please use Chromium.

Gimp: This is a photo editing tool. If you have very large resolution images that you would like to view or edit, you can open them on the display using this program. Simply type one of the following:

 gimp
 gimp <filename>

Xine: This is a media player for video files. If you would like to watch a video file on the big screen, just open this program to play your files.

tsBlaster: This program allows you to view large TerraServer images, and can be used on the powerwall by either opening it in DMX or configuring it to run with Chromium.
